BEADED BANGLES

These beaded creations are handmade made by gifted artisans living in Kwazulu. Zulu beaded bracelets celebrate the distinctive Zulu culture with passion & flair.

Made by women who work from home, this enables them to care for their household while earning an income.

USISI DESIGNS

Pronounced oooooSisi (uSisi), it means“sisters” in Zulu. uSisi can be found behind thick and high walls in a complex of buildings that make up the oldest prison in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. This prison is no longer in use, but is now home to a number of craft production businesses, social welfare groups and business development organisations.

uSisi has encouraged the preservation of traditional skills and knowledge by mentoring younger women with older experts. Each product is designed by a product developer and then meticulously made by hand, by a group of over 40 women.

YAKANAKA

Yakanaka means ‘Africa is Beautiful’ in the Shona language. All the jewellery is handcrafted in the beading centre in Harare, Zimbabwe. The company employ six beading ladies who are paid for every thing they make whether it is sold or not which enables them to earn the money to feed, clothe and educate their children.

Yakanaka specialise in Fresh Water Pearl jewelry and unique hand crafted African beads. These beautiful and delicate pieces are all Nickel free and hypo allergenic.
